5 Ways to Verify Your VPN Connection
Using a VPN is great for privacy, but how do you know it's actually protecting you? Here are simple tests to verify your VPN is working properly.
1. Check Your IP Address
Visit websites like WhatIsMyIP.com before and after connecting to your VPN. Your IP address should change to reflect the VPN server's location.
2. DNS Leak Test
Use DNSLeakTest.com to ensure your DNS queries are routed through the VPN. Any DNS leaks expose your browsing activity to your ISP.
3. WebRTC Leak Test
WebRTC can reveal your real IP even with a VPN. Test at BrowserLeaks.com and disable WebRTC if needed.
4. Speed Test
Run speed tests with and without VPN using Speedtest.net. While some slowdown is normal, excessive speed loss may indicate server issues.
5. Check for IPv6 Leaks
If your VPN doesn't support IPv6, make sure it's disabled on your device to prevent leaks.
